EIGHT DIY CHRISTMAS GIFTS YOU CAN MAKE WITH YOUR KIDS

With Christmas upon us and the kids at home, now is the perfect time to try your hand at a few homemade gifts. Talk with your children and see which of the gifts below they’d like to help make for friends and family:

Stuffed glass ornaments: Available at most craft stores, hollow ornaments are a perfect way to personalize any tree. Fill them from the top with glitter, fake snow, strips of paper, confetti or anything else your heart desires. You can even paint names or words on the outside to personalize the ornaments even more.

Gift baskets: Create a gift that shows the recipient you’re thinking of them by putting together a gift basket customized by hobby. For the cook, fill an oven mitt with utensils. Give the golfer a basket of golf balls, snacks and bottled waters. For the foodie, stuff a basket with gourmet cheeses, olives, cured meats and chutney.

Chalkboard picture frame: Purchase a porcelain picture frame and paint it with porcelain chalkboard paint. Bake it and let it set. After you’ve put the photo in, write a cute message with the chalk. Don’t forget to include the chalk in the box!

Hand scrub: Fill a jar with three parts sugar or salt and one part oil. Add your favorite essential oil for a soothing or stimulating effect.

S’mores in a jar: Arrange graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate decoratively in a jar. Tie with twine to give a rustic look.

Spice jar: Fill a jar with a custom blend of spices—cater to the recipient’s favorite type of food.

Multi-strand scarf: Cut one-inch horizontal strips across a shirt, setting the bottom hem aside. (Cut the hem strip so it makes one long strip.) Roll the raw edges of the strips in toward each other. Gather together and tie with the strip.

Paper maché jewelry bowls: Cut small strips of newspaper and cover them with Mod-Podge. Layer them thickly over one half of the inflated balloons. Let the balloons dry overnight, resting in paper cups. Once dried, pop the balloons. Trim rough edges and decorate the bowls however you like.
