With all the entertainment options out there, finding a positive, thoughtful, inspirational movie for kids can be challenging. They’re out there, though, and we are happy to bring you a short list of movies that will inspire your children to fulfill their dreams! No matter your child’s age or interests, there’s a movie for every kid.

1. If You Build It: In this documentary, 10 high schoolers work with two activists to create change in their community using design and construction skills. We like it because it shows a real-life problem, vision and solution. This movie is most suitable for middle school ages and up. 

2. The Prince of Egypt: This animated movie tells the story of the Biblical character Moses as he embarks on a journey to lead his people to freedom. The plot inspires determination in the face of just about any obstacle, and it features a lead character who makes a great role model for kids.

3. Babe: This film, which tells the adorable tale of a pig who wants desperately to become a sheepherder, shows the merits of hard work and goal setting. Because this movie follows the journey of an everyday farm pig, parents may feel comfortable waiting until their children are a little older to watch this film. 

4. The Lion King: Your kids will be thrilled to join Simba on his quest to become king of the jungle. One of the best animated films of all time, The Lion King promotes bravery, self-confidence and determination.

5. Shrek: This hilarious film follows the journey of an ogre and a donkey who set out to reclaim their swamp from the tyrannical Lord Farquaad. While remembered mostly for the its humor and the romantic connection between Shrek the ogre and Fiona the princess, the movie’s underlying premise encourages perseverance, loyalty and pride of ownership.

6. Stand and Deliver: This movie preaches success against all odds on both sides of the coin. A teacher, played by Edward James Olmos, is determined to teach calculus to at-risk youths, no matter how difficult; and the students come around to learn the benefits of hard work as well. This is another film that may be more enjoyable for older kids.

7. Most Valuable Players: Set in a sports-crazed town in Virginia, this documentary follows a high school musical theater group working to win an award despite a lack of funding. Kids involved in extracurricular activities that aren’t as popular may relate to this film and become inspired to work even harder at their craft.
