Houston Lemonade Day Weekend by Gaye Jackson, City Director

This year, Lemonade Day Houston celebrated its 12^th year mentoring young entrepreneurs who served lemonade and lemony sweets, raised money and shared some of their profits with great causes. Houston is the flagship Lemonade Day city and for the first time, held the event across two days on May 4 and 5, 2019.

CHANGE HAPPENS STAND IN THE RICE VILLAGE

More than 9,000 participants across the Houston metropolitan area worked hard, set a goal, worked their plan and achieved success. Some of the Lemonade Day VIPs (investors, supporters, staff and friends) hopped Mr. McKinney’s History bus on Saturday to visit lemonade stands. On Sunday, the VIPs rode an old fashioned yellow school bus.  Both days they traveled across the city visiting young entrepreneurs selling at locations including the Houston’s East End Farmers Market, Discovery Green, the 5^th Ward, River Oaks, Rice Village, Houston Parks and Rec, Boys & Girls Clubs and 19^th Street in The Historic Heights district.

Five Kendra Scott locations hosted and supported young female entrepreneurs while also providing 10% of proceeds from lemonade stand sales.
